Prof. Chris Toumazou

Bio-inspired neuromodulation of obesity

Chris Toumazou (Director, Centre for Bio-Inspired Technology, Imperial College London, UK) highlights the importance of stimulating biology with a language it understands. Focussing his research on the vagus nerve and cuff electrode stimulation, his work may contribute to the fight against obesity and other disorders.

About speaker:
Prof. Chris Toumazou's research is dedicated to saving and improving lives through the invention of revolutionary, innovative and disruptive technologies, including the creation of a leading edge medical research institute as well as spin-out ventures to commercialize his ground-breaking inventions, namely DNA Electronics Ltd and Toumaz Group plc.

Prof. Toumazou is London's first Regius Professor of Engineering, at Imperial College London where he holds a Chair in Biomedical Circuits in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He is also Director of the Centre for Bio-Inspired Technology, Founder and Chief Scientist of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, and Chairman and CEO of DNA Electronics. DNA Electronics is developing point-of-care diagnostics for life-threatening infectious diseases, based on Prof. Toumazou's semiconductor DNA sequencing technology. In recognition of this invention, he won the 2014 European Inventor Award from the European Patent Office, was awarded the Royal Society Gabor Medal in 2013, and, more recently, the Faraday Medal.
