Prof. Miguel A.L. Nicolelis

Brain machine interfaces: past, present and future

About speaker:

Prof. Miguel Nicolelis along with his colleague, John Chapin, created a paradigm and named it the brain machine interfaces.
Miguel discusses the principles of this paradigm and sites numerous examples of this succeeding with his primates, Aurora and Cherry.
Over the years Miguel and his team have expanded the brain machine interface concept, from being able to control the upper limbs and now, the lower limbs as well. By June 12 2014 Prof. Nicolelis aspires to have a young adult, controlling an exoskeleton by using a non invasive EEG based signal, and walk across the football pitch to kick the ball.
