New virtual reality based on neuroscience

Insights from cognitive neuroscience could bring virtual reality experiences to a new level of immersion. The project, known as RealiSM, has developed an easy-to-use virtual world creator that captures real-world situations to be played back in head-mounted displays (HMD). The system, which includes the user’s body inserted within the virtual world, is currently employed in the lab to study bodily processing, the self, memory and peri-personal space, and will have numerous clinical uses for treating pain, phobias and PTSD.
